Diablo 4 Item Rarity Explained
Items in Diablo 4 come in multiple tiers of rarity, each offering different levels of power and customization:
Common (White): Basic items with no magical affixes, only base stats.
Magic (Blue): Enhanced with 1–2 random affixes. These can sometimes roll higher individual values than higher-tier items.
Rare (Yellow): Come with 3 or more affixes. Better than Magic items in both quality and drop frequency.
Legendary (Orange): Powerful items with unique affixes called Aspects. These can be extracted (destroying the item) and imprinted onto other gear—once per Aspect. Sacred and Ancestral Legendaries are end-game variants with higher stats. Legendaries are account-bound and cannot be traded.
Unique (Gold): Fixed, build-defining affixes. These are ultra-rare “pinnacle” items that only drop at high levels and cannot be traded.
Diablo 4 Item Types Overview
Weapons: Swords, Axes, Bows, Wands, Daggers, Spears, and more.
Armor: Helmets, Chest Armor, Gloves, Boots, Amulets, Rings, and Shields.
Gems: Socketable stones that boost stats. Tiers include Chipped, Flawed, Standard, Flawless, and Perfect.
Runes & Runewords: Not available at launch; planned for future seasons or expansions. Runewords will grant powerful bonuses when runes are socketed in specific combinations.
Charms & Jewels: Not included at launch.
Consumables: Scrolls (Town Portal, Identify, Escape), Potions, Elixirs, and Keys.
Quest Items: Used to progress through story and side quests.
Endgame Systems: Glyphs & Paragon Boards
Glyphs are special items that can be socketed into the Paragon Board. They provide stat bonuses based on the number of active nodes within their radius. Leveling up glyphs expands their range, increasing their potential impact on your build.
Set Items & Runewords: Post-Launch Content
Set Items will not be available at Diablo 4’s launch. The development team felt they limited build diversity too much. Similarly, Runewords are planned for a future update, allowing more flexible and creative gearing strategies.

Diablo 4 Loot System: Personal & Smart Loot
Diablo 4 uses an instanced loot system—drops are personalized, and only you can see your items unless you drop them. This reduces competition and encourages cooperative play.
The Smart Loot system makes sure that most gear that drops is useful for your class:
Approximately 85% of drops are tailored to your character.
Class-specific items will never roll with inappropriate main stats or skill bonuses.
Certain enemy families have higher chances to drop specific item types (e.g., Bandits drop more Crossbows and Boots).
Barbarians can equip 12 items thanks to the Arsenal system, while Rogues can use 11. All other classes have 10 gear slots.
